Beware of Error

I hear all kinds of things about Transgender people. I don't know what to believe. Can you help me?

There is a great deal of ignorance about Transgender folks. Some of it comes from ignorant and/or cruel non-Transgender folks. However, surprisingly, some misinformation comes from the Transgendered, themselves. Question all you hear!

A Miscellany of Information

Wearing the clothing of the opposite sex is a sin. Those who do this, will go to hell.

Practically everyone in the world Crossdresses at sometime or other. Some of the reasons for this are: Entertainment, masquerade, espionage, celebration of life, service of God, service of fellowman, for protection, to comfort the gender distressed, to enhance martial relationships and many others. Crossdressing is a moral fault only when it becomes a fetish.

Boys wearing dresses as children are prone to become Crossdressing a child does not lead to later Crossdressing later in life.

This is pure nonsense! Scientific research has shown that Crossdressing a child does not lead to later Crossdressing as an adult.

Sensitive males who cry tend to be Transsexuals.

Crying at a movie and allowing one to fell does not birth a desire in men to have their penises amputated.

Crossdressers wish they were the opposite sex.

Crossdressers are very haoppy being the same sex they are. It is the Transsexuals who find the need to change their sex.

Anyone who wears the clothing of the opposite sex is a homosexual.

This statement reflects a common error. When approaching the subject of Transgenderism, most people automatically assume that ‘Gender’ means ‘Sexual Orientation’, bit it does not. In fact it has been estimated that 90% of crossdressers, Transgenderist and Transsexuals are heterosexual. Only about 10% are homosexual. This is the same ratio as in the general population.

Males, more often than females, want to change their sex.

There are almost as many FTM’s as there are MTF’s. But our culture takes little note of FTM’s. In a culture where the male is primary and the female is second class, females get ignored.

Transseuxals are homosexuals who want to live with the same sex partner without being noticed.

This would hardly ever work. Homosexuals are attracted to the same sex partners because they are the same sex. But when a homosexual becomes the opposite sex to his/her gay lover, the relationship feels heterosexual and this is something neither party wants.

Transgender people choose to become what they are.

Transgender people, like the rest of humanity, have no choice on how basic biology, chromosomes and hormones will effect the development of the body in the womb. The only choice they have is what path to choose so that they can become whole.

Transsexuals change their sex in order to get turned on. Sexual addiction continuously consumes them.

Being Transsexual is no sexual free for all. Few non-Transsexual men want a Transsexual wife and few non-Trassexual women would be happy with a Transsexual husband. As a result, most Transsexuals embrace aloneness as the price they pay in order to be whole and at peace. A great many of them are celibate for life!

Transsexuals are men who choose to become women or women choose to become men.

Male Transsexuals are, from brith, women on the inside who have decided to become women on the outside. Female Transsexuals are, men from birth, on the inside who have decided to become men on the outside. Choice is only about the externals not essence.

Transsexuals change their sex to gain power.

A man becoming a woman finds that he loses male privilege. He actually trades down in order to find internal peace. Some Deal!! Not!!

You cannot trust Transsexuals. They are all liars.

This is untrue, but it arises from the Transsexuals unique position. Transsexuals often recognize that, during the years, before they all became aware of their Transgenderism, they lived a lie. It was a lie, however, that was thrust upon them by the culture. The real truth, about what they really were, was not wanted. Then, beginning Transition, when they take steps to be honest about what sex they are, employers and others often ask them to lie in order to keep the peace. They are to keep their new status secret. This creates a new problem. For if they hide their status and pass as a member of the opposite sex and are later discovered, they are again accused of lying. The Transsexual is in a no win situation.

Transsexuals suffer from mental illness.

Transsexuals are no more mentally ill then are people with Down’s Syndrome. Transsexuals think and feel a little differently than non Transsexuals. This is die to a birth defect, not insanity.

Mistaken Transgender Opinions.

Men become women in order to infiltrate women’s groups and turn them to serve male purposes.

This is a totally irrational fear. What male, who ‘feels like a woman’ and spends thousands of dollars to be come one, would then want to side with men to insure his/her second class citizenship?

Transsexuals have an incurable disease.

That is not true. Cures are available on many different levels. These range from therapy to Sexual Reassignment Surgery.

A woman who has sex with a TG partner is Lesbian.

This is commonly accepted as a fact, by many in the Transgender Community. But some labels do not fit reality so easily. A wife may stay with her Transsexual husband, who has become a woman, for many reasons. These might might include: Marital Vows, security, finances, health, companionship and a deep, abiding love. She might choose to remain with her partner and celebrate intimacy because of the male qualities she still finds and loves her, now female, spouse. These qualities were not removed by the surgery.Thus, the relationship may look Lesbian but it is really heterosexual. Like intimacies between a couple whose sexual relationship has been limited by ill health of one or both parties, this Trans-couple will do the best they can with what they have to share.

Transgender people are specially chosen by God.

Transgender people might have a right to build a pride in who they are. They can celebrate this by seeing themselves as Gender Gifted. But, they should also know they are no better than any others. They have a job that only they can do. Transgender people need to organize and speak out. They are admonished to never forget, “The squeaky hinge gets the oil”.
